Facing the climate @ Ikano Power Station Malaysia

Facing the climate is a cartoon / comic exhibition @ Ikano from Oct 10-17th 2010. This event is held in conjunction of the Stockholm environmental conference. There are cartoonist from Sweden and Malaysia. I was invited by my friend Sheldon (one of the cartoonist from Malaysia) to attend this opening ceremony. This was a nice and simple exhibition/events to build the awareness of how important we need to conserve our environment.

As the theme is about global warming, go green, conserve energy etc... all the comics/cartoons that exhibit in this event was about saving environment... I managed to capture some pictures via iPhone during the ceremony.

Simple traditional Leather puppet show
on describing how important to conserve our environment

Everyone was very focus on the performance

Datuk Lat kick start the live drawing session

Anyone know which character is Dato Lat's drawing?
Sheldon (my friend) drew the Panquin

The cartoon that drawn during the open ceremony by 7 famous cartoonist a.k.a the picture above was auctioned in the event. Guess how much this piece of art work sold? The starting price was RM500.

There is a board that encourage all of us to post our suggestion on how to contribute on saving the environment...  I found the below two messages very interesting especially the first one...

Do pay a visit to Ikano before Oct 17th 2010... to take a look @ the exhibition at the same time place your suggestion on the board eh~

The 11th Hour @ KLPAC

Few entries back, I have blogged about i got the free ticket to KLPAC for the movie 11th hour narrated by Leonardo Dicaprio.

Finally, the day has come... but i faced some challenges and hiccups... The sky suddenly turned dark and the rain started to pour heavily @ 2pm. Fortunately, I was staying very near to the KLPAC... just 5-10mins drive from my condo to the place. So waited for the rain to get lighter and we left for the place @ about 2:20pm.

I have invited Kimmie to go with me for the movie... she was so enthusiasm to watch the 11th hour but unfortunately when i confirmed with her on the time, she has a training @ her church... Then, i called up Pat but Pat was not free too... his girlfriend was in the town. Sorry Pat, i didn't have an extra ticket for your girlfriend. Anyway, got turned down again. So asking mom whether mom was free and interested to watch the movie with me. Finally, I got mom to watch with me.

Anyway, we reached there about 2:30pm, dropped mom @ the entrance of KLPAC and headed to the parking. Since we were early, Mom and I were walking around KLPAC to check out some up coming shows. For those who likes Sharespeare... they are giving out free ticket for Sharespeare Theater from May 11th -June 1st 2008. I'm not a fan of Sharespeare, don't mind to go with you if you invited me for the theater (Hopefully i will not fall asleep during the play :-> )... hehehe...

Let's go back to the movie... The 11th hour is an hour long documentary. Started with lots of environmentalist explaining the problem/impact of global warming, showing some data on how we as the earth resident have contributed to the global warming, what makes the global warming worst. Then they explain how we as the resident should help to clean up the mess and what could be done to save the earth. The most scary part that mentioned by the fact was that we have been using lots of resources in an extremely fast manner. This has made the mother nature imbalance and lots of extreme disaster has been triggered and who is the victim? WE! ... :-p

So, the 11th hour also shown and encouraged all the citizen of the earth, what would we need to do... definitely we need to manage and consume the resource in a smarter way. We don't need to have a bigger house and a bigger car. Just need whatever we need for living... The mindset of owning a bigger house means rich should be abandoned. The more we wanted a bigger house or car, the more we contributed to the destroy of the earth. So, there was a very important word mentioned in the movie, "Frugality". Sound vulgar eh!Tthis is a very powerful and important word if we properly applied. The whole world will be saved if everyone applied this word in action... What is Frugality? I Wikipedia the word and here you go the explanation

Frugality is the practice of
  • acquiring goods and services in a restrained manner, and
  • resourcefully using already owned economic goods and services, to
  • achieve a longer term goal.[1]
More about Frugality...

So, we need to start apply the Frugality to save our planet earth... Very sad to see how Malaysian wasted the resources... this was a good example, as you know the ticket for 11th hour was free, i belief lots of people have already signed up for getting the ticket and collected the ticket. On that day itself... they did not turn up. What the $%##$^#! There were only about 60% people turned up which what i knew from the mail sent by YTL communities, the YTL management team has agreed with the movie company to have additional 2 sessions to cater for overwhelming response. I was pissed to those who taken the ticket and did not turn up for the viewing... they had contributed the waste of the resources in the world... they should be blacklisted for any future free ticket. These people were just for the sake of getting the free things and decided not to turn up... are they really wanted to know what 11th hour is about... I doubt so! #$#%$^R...

I got even pissed when i found out lots of my friends were interested but could not get the tickets. They were just sighed and looking forward for 11th hour to be shown in Discovery Channel. Anyway, to those who wanted the ticket and not able to get it... this is a good show to watch, watch it if the Discovery Channel shown this. A good knowledge gain for us in this generation to preserve some resources for the next generation. So for those who wasted the resources... you should have regretted your selfishness action... hopefully you will change soon...

Got off from the movie @ about 5pm.
