The website is owned and operated by Facebook, Inc., the parent company of the website and a privately held company. The free-access website allows users to join one or more networks, such as a school, place of employment, or geographic region to easily connect and interact with other people. Users can post messages for their friends to see, and update their personal profile to notify friends about themselves. The name of the website refers to the paper facebooks depicting members of a campus community that some American colleges and preparatory schools give to incoming students, faculty, and staff as a way to get to know other people on campus.
Mark Zuckerberg founded Facebook while still a student at Harvard University. Website membership was initially limited to only Harvard students, but was soon expanded to the entire Ivy League. Later it expanded further to include any university student, then high school students, and finally to anyone aged 13 and over.
The website has more than 69 million active users worldwide.[4] From September 2006 to September 2007, the website's ranking among all websites, in terms of traffic, increased from 60th to 7th, according to Alexa.[5] It is also the most popular website for uploading photos, with 14 million uploaded daily.[4] Due to the website's popularity, Facebook has met with some criticism and controversy in its short lifespan because of privacy concerns, the politicalviews of its founders, and censorship issues. Facebook is currently the top social networking site in many Commonwealth nations such as, Canada[6], United Kingdom[7], and Australia[8].
For the past 4 years, I belief million of peoples have used the facebook to look for long lost friends, schoolmates and even relative etc... (no sure whether they also used facebook to look for pets. LoL) If you are into Facebook... you will find that facebook have lots of applications and so much things to explore and play around, but come to a point you will start feeling that Facebook annoying you... anyway, i just got a friend that posted this clip in the my Fun Wall @ Facebook. (Facebook terms : an area that you could post picture, clip and text even drawing of yours on your own fun wall or your friends fun wall for sharing)...

Sign up already. The only application I like is Scrabulous.
I think the biggest fun of Facebook is to 'add friends'. After that there is not much to do. So far I only play Scrabulous with one friend. The others are not interested despite my invitation. I send them virtual cards on Christmas and CNY but that's about it.
Scrabulous could be removed from Facebook due to copyright issue...
Khengsiong: agreed! i was able to look for those long lost secondary schoolmate... :-> Get connected and sometime just super poke them. Never try Scrabulous... too bad they removed from Facebook :'(
i gave up on facebook long ago. too much spam and annoying applications LOL
I think it's way much more fun and friendlier to use than Friendster. I didn't login to Friensster very often now since I started Facebook. I especially like Facebook's photo uploading tools and photo albums management tools.
SlowCatchUpKuan: You gave up your facebook already... so Sayang! This is one of the nice networking tools... just ignore the superpoke, and all other application that annoyed you :->
