Decision is FINAL...

November 30th 2007 marked a new chapter for me in the near future. It was a decision making day for me on my career for this company :-> I voted to accept the separation package and leave the company. In another word, i voted to put a stop of my career with my current company. It's bitter-sweet as mentioned by my most admired manager in US. It's sad to leave the company but it's a good start for my next career.

Went for breakfast with a bunch of my colleagues when i arrived the office. After my breakfast, I went back to my cubicle and start my day. The HR personnel called me up and let me know there were some changes on the relocation package on the taxation. Unfortunately it's still not as good as the Separation package. So my decision has finalized with taking the package and leave the company. After i finalized my decision, my last day of work will be March 31st 2008. It's a very difficult moment to make such a decision as i have been part of group for nearly 7 years and the pioneer to startup and growth with the office. Anyway, life gotta move on. I would need to plan what i'm going to do after March 31st 2008.

I still have couple of months to plan and kick starts my plan. First step, I would need to update my resume, anyone have a good template for resume? I don't really like the template provided by Jobstreet.com. Then, gotta look around for jobs at the same time plan out my one month vacation. My initial plan is to backpacking Europe but it's too expensive for Europe tour now. Still doing my research and come out the budget whether i would be able to tour Europe for a month. Anyway has the same plan as me to tour Europe next year? :-p

Am I regret to choose not to relocate? At this moment, i don't think so as i think i need a change, a better opportunity for me to explore the world. I might be leaving Malaysia and start my new career outside the country. Singapore... Canada... or some place else... :-> Let's see which country would be able to offer me a decent job. I'm looking forward for a change and better opportunity.

Wow big plans ahead, I see. A change is always good, especially if you've been thinking about it for some time. Jobstreet's resume template is only useful for Jobstreet applications, IMHO. I think you can take note of the informations to put (based on Jobstreet's template), but employ a different format. In any case, I guess it is the accomplishments, skills, experience and achievements that will ultimately be the main determining factor.

I wish I can go backpacking in Europe too, but like you, the time isn't right yet... :(

good for u that at least this is one decision made and u can start to plan further..moving to a new country and starting all over again might be a little tough in the beginning but soon when things get settled down, it does get better. Ever tot of working for ur US counterpart? might be they can offer u a job in USA? :)

Narrowband: thanks for the advice... :-p So you're interested to backpack in Europe too eh!

Winniethepooh: I'm glad and relief that i had made the decision. Now i'm open for job within the country and outside the country. Wanna to make a move and experience working outside the country before being tied down by commitment :->

TZ, JobStreet.com now allows you to plan and format your resume to your own liking as a Word document and then upload it to their server. Then, when you next apply to a job through JobStreet, the employer can decide whether to look at the existing online format in JobStreet or the Word format that you uploaded. So, you can choose to be more flexible with the one that you had uploaded. In my opinion, this gives you the best of both worlds as the employers can now look at your resume the way that you want them to. Just remember to keep both versions current and in sync, because job search results that are delivered to you by JobStreet depends a lot on the inputs you had made in the online version.
