Mai พะโลั

What is พะโลั ?

I was on the way to Penang this morning and dad decided we should stop over Kampar for his favourite Char Keow Tiao @ one coffee shop in Kampar that we visited on our last trip.

Unfortunately the Char Keow Tiao no open today. So, we have no choice but gets something else to eat. I turned and saw this พะโลั  on the menu... so i decided to place a order. This is the bowl of so called พะโลั

I snapped a picture and sent a copy to my friend in Thailand and guess what he came back with... "mai (in thai means Not) พะโลั na kub"... Oops~ he said " I think this is Kuay Jubb na kub".

So, i google and found out there is one youtube video teaching on how to make พะโลั

My next trip to Thailand... i must to try พะโลั na kub.

Go WESMEN Go...

Last Saturday, when i don't know what to have for lunch in JayaOne~ I dropped by Wendy since there is the simplest and faster lunch before 2pm investment sharing. Walked over to the counter and saw a food that reminds me of the days back in Canada...

Are you a fan of basketball?

You must be wondering what is WESMEN in my post title. WESMEN is my University basketball and volleyball team. As a student, we usually get free games to watch when the team is at its HOME i.e. back in their own home ground. It was fun watching live with all the cheering, shouting and booing... etc. Not to forget we also have the vuvuzela that cheered the team.

Let me see whether i could find a youtube clip of the WESMEN playing at HOME.

What you usually have for munching when you watch sports? In Canada, we would have one glass of Labatt Ice and the food that made me think of Canada...

Nacho with Cheese
Yes~ It's nacho with cheese... Yummy eh~

On chilling @ Premium Lounge KLIA

My friends said I'm a frequent traveller... some of them said KLIA and KLIA2 are my 2nd home.

Do you know my 2nd home KLIA got a nice premium lounge which served free flow of Heineken Beer?

Oct 31st 2014 - I was leaving City of Potholes to City of Angel up north... I went to the airport earlier to try to catch an earlier flight. Due to my ticket is a cheapest fare, i could not checked myself in to the earlier flight. As a result, i have 3 hours to spend.

After checked-in to my original flight, i went through the immigration and security check, then went into the train to the satellite building where the KLIA Premium Lounge located. I remembered one of my credit card allowed me to stay up to 3 hours in the lounge free~

So, I decided to pay a visit and found out that they served food and Heineken Beer free...

I have been traveling for nearly every week but I didn't bother to sit in the lounge and enjoy the food, drink and its environment. But now, since they have free flow of drinks which i could booze without paying anything, i will always visit when i fly off from KLIA...

On eating NOT FRESH Prawn @ Phat Thai Jumbo Prawn, Chatuchak Market, Bangkok

Jumbo Prawn
Jumbo Prawn
The attractive jumbo prawn looks yummy eh~
We cannot judge the book by its cover, this is true for this LOOKS yummy prawn.

The prawn that we order
We were so happy thought that we have nice and yummy jumbo prawn to eat as I got to know this Phat Thai Jumbo Prawn place from Nat Geo People featuring Chatuchak Market. 9 big prawns cost us THB1,500. One cost about RM12 per piece... If it's fresh it still worth the money, unfortunately they served us a plate of  NOT FRESH jumbo prawn... What can we do? Complain?...

When my friend inform them on the NOT Fresh jumbo prawn, they didn't even response... this is really a very disappointed encountered in Thailand. I felt being cheated as they posted an article about they received an award for its best/famous Jumbo Prawn in JJ Market. (wondered how much they pay to get the award?)

This would be the first and the last time to visit Phat Thai @ Chatuchak Market, Bangkok for its Jumbo Prawn...

On having ramen in KamiKaze Ramen-ya

More and more Ramen house in Kuala Lumpur... HungryGoWhere has come out the most tasty Ramen in Klang Valley. Do you agree with the rating?

Here are the top 7 Ramen house rated by HungryGoWhere
  1. Ippudo Ramen @ Pavilion - KL
  2. Menya Musashi @ Isetan One Utama - PJ
  3. Bankara @ Avenue K - KL
  4. Marutama Ramen @ Fahrenheit 88 - KL
  5. Hokkaido Ramen Santouka @ Pavillion - KL
  6. Bari-Uma @ Jaya Shopping Centre - PJ
  7. Taiko Japanese cuisine @ Mont Kiara - KL
I have been to x out of 7. I found okay only. Some of them just cost a bomb. Which i found it normal with high price. One Ramen cost about RM25-RM40 per bowl. Expensive eh~

Anyway, I suppose to taste the so called the best Ramen in town which located in Pavillion. My friend invited to join him to taste this ramen. He gotten a voucher buy 1 free 1 ramen in Ippudo. Ended up he was on MC.

Guess what? I ended up in Kamikaze Ramen-ya in 1 Mont Kiara. Kamikaze means to make a suicidal crash attack. Doesn't sound good eh~ But the Ramen taste good and price is reasonable. So, it didn't seems KamiKaze to me.

Shiro KamiKaze (Pork Soup Ramen)
Take a close look at the CharShio

Juicy CharShio
Half and hour later...

Burp~ Yummy
I finished all the soup and left the bowl clean... Now you can see their logo and brand name. It's yummy but unfortunately they are not in the HungryGoWhere rating list which i think they are qualify to be one of the Ramen house in the list.

On ordering Dominos Pizza online...

Once a while i order Domino Pizza online... this is an easy and quick way to get my food rather than i go out to buy my food. Of course i need to pay a higher price for people to deliver the meal to the doorstep in regardless sunny or rainy.

After finishing the online order, you will come across this interesting screen. i.e. GPS tracker.
Yup you may track your pizza... ;-)

Where is my pizza now? hehe... Baking~

How accurate is this tracker? To my experience, i would give it 80% accuracy. But once a while it will haywire especially when the outlet is busy.

Anyway, with or without the tracking tools, i should be able to get my pizza within 30 mins. If not i will get a LATE compensation.

Do you order from Domino before? What do you think about the tracker?

TZ's Unhealthy period

TZ has skipped gym since last Thursday due to replacement MBA weekdays night class. After work, TZ rushed for 6:30pm class from Wednesday till Friday last week. TZ went to gym after class on Wednesday, there was the last workout TZ has for 45 mins until 11pm.

Saturday and Sunday was away from City of Potholes to Penang... No gym in Penang that can take TZ's membership. Fitness First closed down already.

Monday, Oct 14th 2014 - Attending MBA class again until 10pm. It was too late to go to gym.
In addition, TZ felt hungry after the class and drove over to McD @ Plaza Mont Kiara for a snack...  Errr... not really snack but a quarter pounder set dinner. Oops~

Touring Kuala Lumpur - Day #2

My boss and I decided to do a half day sightseeing and have a nice seafood dinner. We actually planned to covered 2 places but we only managed to cover 1 place + a dinner. Really free and easy eh~

Royal Selangor Pewter Visitor Center
The Royal Selangor Pewter Visitor Center is built on the extension of the existing Royal Selangor Pewter factory in Setapak. This factory produces the pewter for all the outlets around the world, as far as London, UK and Toronto, Canada. In short, the only Royal Selangor Pewter factory in the world.

We were welcomed with the World Largest Pewter Tankard...

World Largest
A guide was assigned to explain the history of Royal Selangor Pewter and she brought us around the Royal Selangor Pewter... The Royal Selangor Pewter was founded by a Chinese migrant on 1885 and he settled down in Kuala Lumpur, the town with Tin. The whole session was informative and good for kids to learn about Pewter.

As we finishing the visitor center, we don't have time to head over to the National Mosque, we ended up skipping the National Mosque and proceed to Port Klang for seafood.

Bagan Hailam
My colleague and I have chosen Bagan Hailam to have our seafood dinner.  Journey from Royal Selangor Pewter took around 1hr via DUKE and NKVE.

Bagan Hailam seafood restaurant was located at North Port of Port Klang, we ordered three dishes for 4 adult and 1 children.

  • Sweet and Sour Crab
  • Steam Prawn
  • Assam Stingray fish

Steam Prawn
Sweet n Sour Crab

The food was yummy~ and every was so satisfied.

Before sending them back to the hotel, i brought them over to have a quick tour to see OLD KL at night... "It looks different, the building looks nice" said my boss~

It was a 1.5 days tiring tour around but it was fun to host people in my lovely metropolitan Kuala Lumpur...

January 30th 2014 - My Birthday and CNY reunion dinner

Today is my Birthday, to celebrate my birthday, my sister has arranged a morning walk around the flower market and street art in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC)...

Boat bringing flowers from Mekong Delta

Boat full of flowers
At the art street, got the chance to see how Vietnamese wrote the Lunar New Years artistic painting and calligraphy. The Vietnamese also using the ink and brush like Chinese in China.

Writing the Horsey word
Next, we headed to the Temporary Florist in the middle of the city near the famous Ben Thanh Market. This is an annual event for city folks to buy flower and place in their home for the lunar new year.

Sun flower fields in HCMC
Dragon Fruits as decoration
there are meaning to all these flowers and fruits as the decoration... i don't know what it meant to the Vietnamese thought. Maybe i could find out from my Vietnamese colleagues. :p

Not sure you still remember the Lunar New Year reunion dinner was also my birthday dinner... My sister bought this cake and celebrated my birthday in the afternoon. This Tiramutsu cake was brought from a 68 years old bakery shop. It was super yummy~

My Birthday Cake
My Lunar New years dinner always have it indoors, this year the Lunar New Year was a bit different as we were having Alfresco dinner. Yup,  we were having our dinner at 28 floors with the spectacular sunset...

Yummy Sarawakian Food

When you go for a tour, what you will definitely not missing is to try out as many local food as possible. My trip to Kuching was also a food tasting trip besides the point of interest (Sarawakian Cultural Village, Kuching City tour and Sarawak River Cruise etc). Managed to try various famous Sarawakian food from Siew Bee, Kolo Mee to the three layer tea...

Three Layer Tea
Sarawakian Layer Cake
Not sure whether the Sarawakian really like layering.... They have famous layer tea, layer cake and what else?... LoL

My friend bought me to this 80 years old Siew Bee Stall. This stall located in a food court near the river. Siew Bee in Kuching means Siew Mai in Kuala Lumpur. But Siew Bee tastes different from Siew Mai.. I don't know how to describe the difference but i recommend you to try out yourself. The Siew Bee in this  small stall which has survived with only selling one product for 80 years. It's no doubt very tasty... Yum yum~

80 years old business - Siew Bee
Guess what? My friend can wallop around 20s at one time... And his parents hand carried the frozen Siew Bee to Kuala Lumpur for my friend. :p

Sarawak have few famous noodles  i.e. Kolo Mee; Kampua mee and Laksa Sarawak... I managed to try two out of three noodles. Kampua mee is Sibu famous noodle. So I need to pay a visit to Sibu to taste this noodles and not forgetting the famous Empurau Fish too.

Kolo Mee
Laksa Sarawak
Every state in Malaysia has its own Laksa, but Laksa Sarawak has its own unique taste. First of all, it's not LEMAK (no coconut milk), and it also not so spicy. This is because its soup base is only full of quality black pepper planted in Sarawak.

Sarawakian also have its own famous wine called Tuak (Made of Rice). The % of  alcohol contain is quite high, i'm not sure how much but once you have a few sips. You will feel tipsy...

Home-made Tuak
Are you drooling over all these yummy food? Will you fly over to Kuching to taste all these Yummy food?

Mom, What is #Kangkung?

I was holding the lift for this family of 5 people with 2 little kids and a baby. There was a very young girl asking a lot of questions before coming into the lift... blah blah blah.

While we were going up to each of our selected floor...

Girl : Mom, what is Kangkung?
Mom: The vegetable that Najib eat.  *I wanted to laugh out loud but....

I was laughing inside... I was like what? Did Najib really eat Kangkung in front of the media? Or this is what the mother meant when she answer her daughter.

Picture Adapted from Malaysia Kini
I googled on "Najib Makan Kangkung" @ the image tab.... there were no Najib ate Kangkung photo except this. So,  I bet 99% the mother meant this... cute mom eh~

Hey folks the Kangkung price has shoot up... now should we asked our lovely PM what would be the next vegetable that government will lower the price?

Nihon Mura Express @ Cathay Leisure - Singapore

Sushi feast for SGD1.50 per plate in Nihon Mura Express has drawn the attention of my friends and I to eat like a gluttony ;-) As the conveyor belt moving... our eyes were moving to the dish we wanna to pick up...

Conveyor belt
As many many plates passed us but we didn't see the Sake Sashimi (Raw Salmon). So we ordered from the staff 4 plates of Sake Sashimi. They combined the 4 plates into one.

Sake Sashimi
We ate many more different dishes... Chawamushi... Miso Soup etc... So, the tower was in progress when i snapshot this...

One tower was coming up
As time passed... the stack of empty dishes were coming up... We reached a point that we could not eat anymore. That's it. Let me introduce the Twin Tower...

So can anyone guess how much is the total bill?
